Tracing with a Light
Box
I used a light box to trace this drawing
of a baby, and then I scanned the result into the computer. A light
box is simply a glass surface to work on which has a light underneath it
which helps to make the details in the drawing easier to see through the
tracing paper.
Once a sketch has been prepared, it
is better to produce a tracing of it rather than to ink directly over the
original sketch. Then if you need to redo the ink work, you can still
reuse the original sketch.
The inking in on this drawing was done
using a Staedtler Mars graphic 3000 duo pen
which has a flexible paintbrush-type tip. It takes practice to control
a pen of this type, but it is worth the effort as it produces drawings
with smooth flowing lines.
