2002/08/19 -  It is with sadness that I learned the tragic death of photographer Galen Rowell and his wife in an airplane crash last week.  Mr. Rowell was considered one of the greatest photographer in landscape photography.  This world traveller and before-fashion outdoor adept built his reputation on great images but also as a wonderful educator/teacher,  He wrote several books demystifying landscape photography and the use, among other things, of neutral density filters.  I recall browsing through photo.net looking for books on landscape photography. Galen Rowell name would be in almost every forum post, first line.  His love and respect of wilderness inspired many until the very last days of his life.  May this continue in the years to come.
