======================================================================== Using SLX feature (The Song Librarian eXchange files)... ======================================================================== An SLX file has the same name as the corresponding MIDI file. Example: XXX.MID (the SLX file will be XXX.SLX) An SLX file contains (Title, Author, Style, Lyric Tracks) of the corresponding MIDI file. In the current version: comments and sets are not saved into SLX files, this should be added in a future version. To create SLX files, click on the "Export" button in The Song Librarian. You can create ONE or Many SLX file(s) at a time by selecting: - current file (the one your are on in the list) - ALL files (all files you see in the list, may be all files of a set or all files of the library...) ======================================================================== Example of how to use this feature: ======================================================================== Imagine you have two computers, the first one contains your MASTER library and the second contains an image of your library. The MASTER library is the one where you take time to specify the title, author, style, etc. You don't want to re-enter this information for your second computer... Also, you may have done a couple of little changes in your MIDI files (tempo, transpose,....). These changes need to be done only on your MASTER computer. Now, you'll want to "export" the 10 new songs from your MASTER computer to your IMAGE computer. ---------- ON YOUR MASTER COMPUTER ---------- 1. Launch The Song Librarian 2. Create a set containing the 10 new songs 3. Press on the "Export..." button 4. In the "Export Songs....." window: 4.1 select "All files" you should see : 10 files 4.2 specify a directory (could be "C:\TEST\", or "A:\" ) 4.3 select "Song files AND SLX" 4.4 click on the "Export" button The Song Librarian will copy the 10 selected MIDI files into the target directory and will generate an SLX file for each MIDI file. Now, in the target directory, you should retreive 20 files (10 .MID and 10.SLX). 5. Copy the contents of the target directory into a directory ON YOUR IMAGE COMPUTER. (should be at the same place where all your other MIDI files are) ---------- ON YOUR IMAGE COMPUTER ---------- 1. Launch The Song Librarian 2. Simply, use "Add files to library" to add all your new files (you can put ...\*.* and The Song Librarian will ignore the files that already exists, you may get a warning message. Click "ALL" to ignore all existing files) The Song Librarian will automatically extract information from the SLX files (title, author, ...) and all .SLX files will be automatically deleted. ======================================================================== The SLX feature is also useful to... ======================================================================== 1. Exchange MIDI files between The Song Librarian users. 2. Creating a "backup-like" of your library (by generating an SLX file for each of your MIDI files) This is most useful when you plan to move all your MIDI files onto another drive or into another directory, in this case, you should re-install The Song Librarian and re-add all your files to your library. Be sure to place all corresponding SLX files in the same directory as your MIDI files. 3. If you prefer to only refresh "title, author, style, ..." on an IMAGE computer, it's possible to generate only SLX files for one or many MIDI files. 4. I use this feature when a friend wants many of my MIDI files. First I create a new set, put all files that he wants in this new set, then I "export" all files of this set to a temporary directory. Afterward, I can ZIP all files onto a floppy.... =END==================================================================== HLPSLX.TXT, By Denis & Russ (September 9, 1998)
